I read this on a friend's Facebook post and it really touched me... I have been sharing it too. Then I googled it and found the picture, one that a child could have drawn....
The Sandpiper
by Robert Peterson
She was six years old when I first met her on the beach near where I live.
I drive to this beach, a distance of three or four miles, whenever the
world begins to close in on me. She was building a sand castle or
something and looked up, her eyes as blue as the sea.
"Hello," she said.
I answered with a nod, not really in the mood to bother with a small child.
"I'm building," she said.
"I see that. What is it?" I asked, not really caring.
"Oh, I don't know, I just like the feel of sand."
That sounds good, I thought, and slipped off my shoes.
A sandpiper glided by.
"That's a joy," the child said.
"It's a what?"
"It's a joy. My mama says sandpipers come to bring us joy."
The bird went gliding down the beach. Good-bye joy, I muttered to
myself, hello pain, and turned to walk on. I was depressed, my life
seemed completely out of balance.
"What's your name?" She wouldn't give up.
"Robert," I answered. "I'm Robert Peterson."
"Mine's Wendy... I'm six."
"Hi, Wendy."
She giggled. "You're funny," she said.
In spite of my gloom, I laughed too and walked on.
Her musical giggle followed me.
"Come again, Mr.. P," she called. "We'll have another happy day."
The next few days consisted of a group of unruly Boy Scouts, PTA
meetings, and an ailing mother. The sun was shining one morning as I
took my hands out of the dishwater. I need a sandpiper, I said to
myself, gathering up my coat.
The ever-changing balm of the seashore
awaited me.. The breeze was chilly but I strode along, trying to
recapture the serenity I needed.
"Hello, Mr. P," she said. "Do you want to play?"
"What did you have in mind?" I asked, with a twinge of annoyance.
"I don't know. You say."
"How about charades?" I asked sarcastically.
The tinkling laughter burst forth again. "I don't know what that is."
"Then let's just walk."
Looking at her, I noticed the delicate fairness of her face.
"Where do you live?" I asked.
"Over there." She pointed toward a row of summer cottages.
Strange, I thought, in winter.
"Where do you go to school?"
"I don't go to school. Mommy says we're on vacation"
She chattered little girl talk as we strolled up the beach, but my mind
was on other things. When I left for home, Wendy said it had been a
happy day. Feeling surprisingly better, I smiled at her and agreed.
Three weeks later, I rushed to my beach in a state of near panic. I was
in no mood to even greet Wendy. I thought I saw her mother on the porch
and felt like demanding she keep her child at home.
"Look, if you
don't mind," I said crossly when Wendy caught up with me, "I'd rather be
alone today." She seemed unusually pale and out of breath.
"Why?" she asked.
I turned to her and shouted, "Because my mother died!" and thought, My God, why was I saying this to a little child?
"Oh," she said quietly, "then this is a bad day."
"Yes," I said, "and yesterday and the day before and -- oh, go away!"
"Did it hurt?" she inquired.
"Did what hurt?" I was exasperated with her, with myself.
"When she died?"
"Of course it hurt!" I snapped, misunderstanding,
wrapped up in myself. I strode off.
A month or so after that, when I next went to the beach, she wasn't
there. Feeling guilty, ashamed, and admitting to myself I missed her, I
went up to the cottage after my walk and knocked at the door. A drawn
looking young woman with honey-colored hair opened the door.
"Hello," I said, "I'm Robert Peterson. I missed your little girl today and wondered where she was."
"Oh yes, Mr. Peterson, please come in. Wendy spoke of you so much. I'm
afraid I allowed her to bother you. If she was a nuisance, please,
accept my apologies."
"Not at all! she's a delightful child." I said, suddenly realizing
that I meant what I had just said.
"Wendy died last week, Mr. Peterson. She had leukemia
Maybe she didn't tell you."
Struck dumb, I groped for a chair. I had to catch my breath.
"She loved this beach, so when she asked to come, we couldn't say no.
She seemed so much better here and had a lot of what she called happy
days. But the last few weeks, she declined rapidly..." Her voice
faltered, "She left something for you, if only I can find it. Could you
wait a moment while I look?"
I nodded stupidly, my mind racing for
something to say to this lovely young woman. She handed me a smeared
envelope with "MR. P" printed in bold childish letters.. Inside was a
drawing in bright crayon hues -- a yellow beach, a blue sea, and a brown
bird. Underneath was carefully printed:
A SANDPIPER TO BRING YOU JOY.
Tears welled up in my eyes, and a heart that had almost forgotten to
love opened wide. I took Wendy's mother in my arms. "I'm so sorry, I'm
so sorry, I'm so sorry," I uttered over and over, and we wept together.
The precious little picture is framed now and hangs in my study. Six
words -- one for each year of her life -- that speak to me of harmony,
courage, and undemanding love.
A gift from a child with sea blue eyes and hair the color of sand
-- who taught me the gift of love.
NOTE: This is a true story sent out by Robert Peterson. It happened
over 20 years ago and the incident changed his life forever. It serves
as a reminder to all of us that we need to take time to enjoy living and
life and each other. The price of hating other human beings is loving
oneself less.
Life is so complicated, the hustle and bustle of everyday traumas can make us lose focus about what is truly important
or what is only a momentary setback or crisis..
This week, be sure to give your loved ones an extra hug, and by all
means, take a moment... even if it is only ten seconds, to stop and
smell the roses.
This comes from someone's heart, and is read by many
and now I share it with you..
May God Bless everyone who receives this! There are NO coincidences!
Everything that happens to us happens for a reason. Never brush aside
anyone as insignificant. Who knows what they can teach us?
I wish for you, a sandpiper.
It didn't matter how much of this was true but I did check it out on snopes.com and still interesting....
So, to you, I wish for you, a sandpiper, to bring you joy.

World Suicide Prevention Day~PLEASE LIGHT A CANDLE at 8PM.
Can you imagine this statistic?
But much more than a statistic, these are our family members, our friends, our neighbors, people we know and some we have only know of. They are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers... and on that 41st second, some one's life will never be the same and will never get over it...despite what you think.
On the other side, if I could say one thing, it would be:
IT'S NOT THE END, IT DOES GET BETTER! There are times when that cloud of depression just stays over your head and it just won't lift. It's like a storm of 30 days and 30 nights, only sometimes it feels like forever! That pain will go away... it can. And I am sorry it hurts so much. I have to thank some one that did stay up all night... with me. As much as I recommend talking to anyone, I suggest a professional uninvolved person with an objective view to talk to... sometimes it's easier. Call the Hotline: 1-800-273-8255.
I am lost for words... but I do know this much for sure...
Death is very final for those who are gone and for those left behind. Life as we know it will never be the same... never ever. Life as friends and family of Laura and Jennica know it, and so many more, will never ever be the same be the same. Jennica's daughter will never be the same...
Had any of us known, we would have stayed up all night... but now, going forward, remember, there are ways of How To Save A Life...
Last year's, 2012, post for World Suicide Prevention Day ~ Please light a candle tonight at 8pm.

My life is under construction again!! or STILL!
I should paint myself a sign that says:
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
or
WORK IN PROGRESS!!
and keep it handy at all times. I just have to keep moving BUT I have to remember to stop before I fall. Right now, I have a full plate of things I haven't finished and things that need to be done to make some more changes. I am in the process of dismantling everything I have done outside over the past few years... but sooner than later. I've worked outside all week and today I am having a hard time moving, so here I type.
After that, I have to re-think and re-sort what I am keeping and donate the rest, and move. I am staying here but to another trailer that has been updated, repaired and upgraded... with a work shop and a screened in patio! and my own spot to paint in!
It has been a battle of the mind and the body over the past few years but I keep realizing that my body can not do what it used to no matter how badly the mind wants to. Not having to make repairs and such (in the new place) will save a lot of energy for things I like to do, for things I enjoy. I won't be so bogged down with the overwhelming thoughts and pressure put on myself of how, when or can I, do by myself what needs to be done.
So, in order to get THERE I have to keep moving around HERE again... but today I want to work on some driftwood paintings...I still have canvases to work on too... I'm looking for something that is different that I can hook into... something that people will have to have, or know when they look at it that it is mine or my style... so in between, that's what I'll be doing in my zone, in my Happy Place!

Quick note:
Hi!
Sunday's exercise was to reflect on the previous week... actually I have been reflecting all week ad especially last night. I started this week's Design Your Life at the right time... I think Michelle said "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear".
Monday was simply to Exercise your body... I ran around and sent out 31 pieces of art to New Jersey and 1 piece to Laurie in Texas!
Tuesday I skipped some things and helped my friends at their new place which was more than my body could handle. Today I sit here still in a ridiculous amount of pain... going around in my mind what I should do and what I am going to do....
I have to add to my list of goals is to figure out how to do what has to and what I want to do without going over the edge....

Design Your Life - Exercise 7
Well, it is Day 7 of Design Your Life!!
I'm pretty excited about it too. I was stuck and now I am un-stuck! I am following the new path and have planned steps to take to reach my goal.
Today's exercise was easier because I'd been working on the steps I need to take and Ms. Sherry's example fit me so well (like a glove):
She did my exercise for me! Well, almost....
My rough drawing wasn't good enough for me so while I ran to the Hardware Store, I was thinking about 'steps'... there aren't many around here... everything is pretty flat. So I took a ride along the river. I saw a spot where if I was in the water I could have used some stones like stepping stones along the river's edge but not taking a picture from the shore. It didn't work. So then I got to a park and thought these round orbs along the walk would work....
So, in order for me to reach my GOAL, these are the steps I have to take:

Design Your Life - Exercise # 6
Good afternoon!
My sleep is all messed up! I go to bed tired and then... my eyes spring open and I am awake for hours. As it gets to be the time where I say, if I don't fall asleep by whatever o'clock I'll just get up...then I fall asleep. That's about how it was last night so of course I wasn't up and moving around as early as I planned. I did get some of my errands (the necessary ones) done and I am back to post and then paint some work that is in progress. I am looking forward to finishing these pieces.
Before I left, Design Your Life posted Exercise #6...
When I think about myself, without going into the long drawn out story, I think of myself as a survivor. I have and have been told, good survivor skills and reflexes... and they have served me well. So when I had to come up "with one word that means something to me" and "use each letter to describe your design", I came up right away with survivor. But while I was out and about, I thought about it...
The words I used are:
The difference is, to me, that I have been surviving and getting by BUT what I want to do is LIVE... Live, Love and Laugh...Live Life to the Fullest, Love Fully and Do What I Love, and Laugh till it hurts, till I lose my breathe!!
So now I want a new word....
how about MERMAID? YES! It's a Mermaid Life for me!!
So, there you have it. Just like angels come into your life as friends in disguise, teachers come in as Mentors and teach you things you didn't know as well as things you didn't know you didn't know and you didn't even know you wanted to know. I am so encouraged going forward. This journey has taken many twists and turns and I am excited to see the path before me as the journey begins again along the beach. I am so much more relaxed at this time doing what I love to do and learning more as I go. It's just magic!! I am very interested in living, learning and laughter! It's a great way to keep from growing old and stagnant... and who wants that? I am delighted that my brain took this twist and my life as well...I think I had to step back and remember that I am Designing MY Life ad what is it that I want it to be...how do I see it in a dream and that's the path to take.

Good-bye July!
Hello August!!
Almost a week of Design Your Life ! It is exciting how it happened, ending the month and starting a new month with a new journey.
Today I will spend as much time as possible preparing for the month of August, planning as much as I can! I hope I'll have some news and milestones to announce but for now, I have to getting moving and doing those things for the journey to ME.
One of the things I will do is print out this picture and frame it... I'm thinking of hanging it next to the bathroom mirror to remind me and see each morning... or maybe next to the coffee pot for a reminder meditation....
OK, catch ya later with my next lesson.... meanwhile, have a great day!

Design Your Life - Exercise 5
Well, Good Morning! Here I am on Day 5 of my journey for a new life thanks to Design Your Life. In those 5 days, I have cleared up some of my stinking thinking and am writing and drawing in my journal. I have made a commitment to write here too. One of the things about sharing here (for me) is whether you read it or not (I hope you do) is I am holding myself accountable. I have to continue because I am sharing this with you and I don't want to let either one of us down! Some things are more personal than others but I share them with you because maybe you're there too; maybe you'll think about it and see something else in your life; and/or maybe you'll join me on this new journey and join in and Design Your Life.
Here's a few things that have come to light this week in doing and reflecting upon my lessons...
As some of you know, I have been pushing myself (too far) to do certain things around here that need to be done. When I push myself too far it sets me back and sits me down for days sometimes. But what I am realizing is, I am allowing the pain to steal my joy and just sitting it out!
Another part of today's exercise was to take this photo (Morning Walk and Meditation) and share something inspirational:
I added the prayer:
I hope you have a wonderful day! Until next time....
Today's Exercise 5
Write the one thing missing in your life... write a paragraph on your thoughts and feelings on that void and sketch/draw/paint in your journal.
Living alone, of course, has its ups and downs. But what has happened to me is there are things I love to do, things I like to do and things I'm not crazy about but have to be done. When I was working outside the home, things still got done before or after work and on days off. Now, not working outside the home, it is so easy to fall into a trap of there is always tomorrow! That just means I don't feel like it! Which can mean that things pile up until they become over whelming and then, where do I start? Things then are no longer enjoyable or fun because whatever it is now a chore and I don't like chores.
As some of you know, I have been pushing myself (too far) to do certain things around here that need to be done. When I push myself too far it sets me back and sits me down for days sometimes. But what I am realizing is, I am allowing the pain to steal my joy and just sitting it out!
So, my answer to today's exercise, in short is: My time management sucks! All my time is mine to do as I want and wound up in the trap where I pretty much do NOTHING! I have taken time for granted and there's something to the words: "to live like you were dying"!
I am feeling encouraged, good, focused, on my way! Focused on moving and going forward ~ excited!

I added the prayer:
My journey begins and ends at the beach...
Good Morning Lord, Thank you for another day to breathe the salty fresh air and fill my lungs with your wonder. Thank you for another day to feel your tide ebb and flow as you tug on my feet to remind me to stand tall. Thank you for the majestic view as far as my eyes can see and remind me that I am one of your creatures as we share this beach. Thank you Lord for reinvigorating my soul! Amen
I hope you have a wonderful day! Until next time....

Design Your Life - Excercise 4
Good Evening!
Late start today and very much behind but I didn't want to not share the next exercise. I had a bad night trying to sleep and feeling like I am ready for bed now, so this will be short.
Feeling tired and not focused, this one took a while to think about and come up with words... I sat with my notebook and decided to draw a sketch of the tree to help focus on the task... Could someone tell me how a palm tree didn't come to mind?
Anyway, this is what I came up with:
My roots at the bottom and words that describe what I am starting to learn (I stopped reading): focus, plan, action, achieve, believe and acceptance. BUT what I am starting to learn what my design is, is simple. What disability has done to me is limited my abilities physically and financially. What my design has done is shown me that my limitations do not include my ability to learn, restructure, paint and share to keep going. I CAN DO THIS! My vacation trips to parts of the country or the world for walking tours may be off the list but painting and sharing is not...maybe a trip to the Jersey Shore could become possible.
In my branches, the words to describe my Design Life are: happy, inspire, freedom, relax, peace, rewarding, satisfying, paint....
I'm not sure I went in the right direction on this exercise but you know how it is when you come to the fork in the road...
It's a journey to Design Your Life !

Design Your Life - Excercise 3
Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a good weekend and looking forward to a great week. It's Monday and I got up later than usual but spent Sunday evening with friends watching movies. When I woke up, I was wishing it was Friday already...bad thought pattern to wish time away! So I got my coffee, my notebook and headed over to Design Your Life.
Today's lesson helped me with my thinking....
I posted:
Let me just take this one step further...
It's time to wake up! It's time to realize and grab a hold of what I can do! It's time to ACCEPT! There is ASSISTANCE right in front of me! My Mentor has been patiently waiting for ME to take the opportunity to be what I ASPIRE to be... and it IS what I can do and be!
I love to paint. I love to share inspirational quotes and sayings. I love combining the two. I enjoy looking at them but how many can I have that I still enjoy them without sharing them with others. And that was the point, wasn't it? To make them to share with someone else that enjoys. It's time to let go and move on and make more. That is my passion.
What are you doing? What do you love to do? What do you love to share with others? Isn't it time for you to Design Your Life ?

(Background) In 2008, I lost my job, my home and my dog. I wound up on disability and here. A couple of years later I adopted my new baby, Heidi and together we live alone. Anyway... that's how I got to where I am now. Some people go through empty-nest, divorce, death, but we find ourselves in uncharted waters that were not part of our plan. Now, honestly, I've been floundering around for years with no real direction and I am sure I could continue this pattern for years more but what would I accomplish? I could continue to dwell on what I can't do and what it used to be like but what purpose does that serve?

Design your Life - Excercise 2:
... and my journey continues...
Today's Post:
Right now, I am feeling like a sponge again. I am open and soaking up allot around me. I am soaking up the sunshine, the warm breezes, sights and sounds, information, and most recently, I am soaking up the tutorials from Paintin Place on YouTube.
I am driven and excited to watch them and driven to paint more...learning more.
I love the beach. I have spent the best and worst times of my life there and I keep going back. I want to expand my paintings. Colors, especially tropic colors light my spark and seeing them come alive ignites me. Ms. Sherry also ignites me and makes me want to do more. My gift of painting... I want it to be simple and clean but fun, souvenir-ish, that you have to have to remember "that" moment.
All those things and more, and Ms. Sherry, nourish my soul.
Now it's your turn! Have a great day!

Starting a new journey today!
Good Afternoon!
I am starting a new journey today and I am excited! I'm so excited about it that I wanted to invite you along... and perhaps you'll take your own journey too.
Ms. Sherry from Paintin Place Decorative Art Studio has started a new page on Facebook called Design Your Life! It just started today so get in on the beginning and get started. This is how Ms. Sherry explained the start:
Today's first assignment and my response:
I think she is talking to me directly! She has stirred my soul, once again, and I am moving forward, once again, so hold on tight and WATCH ME GROW!
I hope you will join the journey and DESIGN your LIFE!!

Hi Everyone. My name is Ms.Sherry. I teach art classes here on the Jersey Shore. Through my teachings I have met and seen so many testimonials on how many people aren't following their passions, and once they start their whole life changes and falls into place. Design Your LIFE!!!! start here with us today.
Today's first assignment and my response:
I really wanted to write "PAINT" three times; paint inside, paint outside, paint anywhere! But sometimes I try to seem normal. But paint is highlighted because that is my passion. After that Ms. Sherry suggested a notebook to keep during this journey, so I grabbed a sketch book and used a 'paint pen' to mark the cover:

After adding my list to my book, I made another list of 5 things I want to do to move forward.
After that was these posts:
This is a challenge - call to action. Open your eyes, open your mind. Do what has been nearly impossible and choose something better!
The hardest step is starting!
Today's Lesson:
- EXPLORE - inside for top 3 things that feed your soul;
- EXPRESS - your most favorite and how you begin the steps toward it;
- EXCELLENCE - achieve it!!
I think she is talking to me directly! She has stirred my soul, once again, and I am moving forward, once again, so hold on tight and WATCH ME GROW!
I hope you will join the journey and DESIGN your LIFE!!

It's good to be motivated...
Good Morning!
I hope everyone is doing well and all is well with you. I have been keeping busy, some ways too busy, but had a great turn around last week.
Some of you know by now that Miss Sherry at the Paintin Place Decorative Art Studio has made such a great influence on the direction I have taken with my life...this life. Last week, she started a group on Facebook, primary to share the work her students are doing. Well, HELLO!! Take a look at and join Paintin Place New Jersey if you're interested. I have so many new ideas, my adrenaline is up and I feel good!! I just need to build up my supplies again...but my motivation and inspiration is flying.
This is what I've been up to:
I was asked to do a House Sign with Snoopy. I'd done one before but I wanted it to be different so more dog house for room for their name and house number. Woodstock will glow in the dark!!
I had to do a beach scene because that it where I am most happy. I am making it for someone who has been out of their home since October's Super Storm Sandy! I didn't like areas so painted over it and re-did sections...I'm really liking it now! I added red flip flops in the lower left corner to depict Dorothy's ruby slippers... by the way, this is for Dorothy!
The third one is a piece I am struggling with. I want to do a piece for a raffle for a suicide prevention/memorial foundation and not sure where I'm going with it yet... I started off thinking in terms of angel's wings and the moon but right now I'm thinking along the lines of "The world is your oyster..."
So in between one to the other and coats of paint to dry, I am still sorting out and putting away things and still organizing my 'studio'. I still have things in the shed to bring in...
I have to keep moving so I'll let you know how things progress. Have a great day!

BEWARE if I have a spray can in my hand!!
I'm just throwing this post together real quick so if you need any more information leave a comment or ask on Facebook.
I love this chair! The day I decided to talk to a chair. Just love it!
Here are some pictures too for you to check out:
The picture above is one of the Margaritaville chairs I have drooled over for years but too far from my price range.
But as done in the past, DYI out of necessity I started with the children's size Adirondack (resin) chair :
That wound up being painless so I graduated to an adult size Adirondack chair and I love it!
I've used spray paint for backgrounds of paintings and signs to push out for a craft fair... the secret is out!
And of course of used it to freshen up and change things up with a pop of color:
And the shed is a work in progress... started with spray paint for background and acrylic paints for the details...
This is what's left of my arsenal of spray paints! Time for more ideas and more paints!!

Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins
The 2013 Hurricane Season booklets, lists, and shows are available for the Hurricane Preparedness.
Channel 6 News Orlando had a special last night and a wealth of information. If you didn't see it and are interested, there is a wealth of information here.
Here you can download the Hurricane Survival Guide from WESH 2. As anyone can tell you, you just don't know what is going to happen during hurricane season. And it's a good year if you aren't in it's path. I wasn't here for the 1994 season but the local people that were, were still talking to me about it during the 1998 season when Tropical Storm Fay sat on top of us day after day. I was encouraged to and have prepared every season since moving to Florida. My logic is simple: If I am prepared, I'll be OK; If I am not prepared the worst is bound to happen. Prepare for the worst and Pray for the best!
Here is a Hurricane Check List that is simple and clear. Local 6 Orlando advises supplies for 14 days. There are tips every where, but what I'd like to share are some that I have learned over my few years here and those that I shared with my mother on Long Island as she prepared for Sandy last year.
PREPARE!
Create an emergency stash ... Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. What I found is check expiration dates on anything and everything... canned goods, non-perishables, even batteries. Speaking of which, I found named batteries work better when you need them than dollar store or off brands...especially in an emergency when you really need them. They tell you to prepare a minimum of 3 days, per person, but don't forget your pets too. Make sure you have enough water; a gallon per person/per day. That could be gallon containers or individual bottles and don't for the dog or cat's water too.
BEFORE A STORM: With the forecast of a hurricane headed in our direction, there are still days to prepare but hopefully you've already started.
DURING THE STORM:
Everyone's situation is different:
Follow the directions of your local authorities....
just remember:
BE PREPARED, STAY ALERT, BE SAFE!
good luck!

That could be gallon containers or individual bottles and don't for the dog or cat's water too.
This year I am going to keep a plastic container with my stash... after checking everything I've learned, it will contain:
- a 5 pound bag of dry dog food for my Chihuahua, a bag of treats, and a bag of those "calming treats".
- 2 cases of bottled water for us.
- Containers of milk that don't need to be refrigerated until opened.
- Powdered milk and powered coffee creamer.
- Instant coffee... a camping coffee pot.
- Instant hot chocolate.
- Cans of tuna
- Cans of soup.
- Cans of beans for bean salad
- Peanut butter and jelly, Pop-tarts, granola bars..
- a manual can opener, paper plates, bowls, cups
- flash lights and batteries
At the same time, I will check and move my gas barbq to the patio; check the amount of charcoal in the shed (I have a small charcoal grill too that I decided may come in handy.) Check what batteries I need for my emergency radio, my crank radio, flash lights....
Another tip: hurricane season is not a good time to over load your freezer with food for months unless you know for sure you'll use it or have a generator. I learned the very hard way during a power outage that lasted a couple of days!
BEFORE A STORM: With the forecast of a hurricane headed in our direction, there are still days to prepare but hopefully you've already started.
- Go over your stash... check the expiration dates; what else will you need? Milk, bread, (throw a loaf in the freezer) MEDICATIONS (call the pharmacy for refills) cigarettes (or is this a good opportunity to quit?) wine (Hurricane Party supplies) junk food?
- Gather supplies: radios, batteries, candles
- Make and bag ice ahead of time.
- Fill extra containers with water (for flushing, washing)
- Put outside furniture and decorations away.
- FILL the car with gas
- Get some CASH
- Pack a GO BAG, just in case.
- I have a harness for my dog and up-date tags and a leash; poop bags, t-shirt, calming pills and a carry bag ready to go. She won't be a happy camper!
- PAY ATTENTION!
DURING THE STORM:
Everyone's situation is different:
- do you live in a mobile home, evacuate.
- do you live in a flood zone?
- do you live on or near the water?
Follow the directions of your local authorities....
just remember:
BE PREPARED, STAY ALERT, BE SAFE!
good luck!

A Bridge Too Far - History
September 1944. The Battle of Arnhem was one of the most audacious but
ultimately controversial battles of the Second World War. Airborne drops
in Holland were to secure important bridges on the route to taken by
ground forces racing to gain a foothold across the Rhine. Had it
succeeded it might have ended the war by Christmas 1944.
Arnhem: A Bridge Too Far the True Story follows the route of the 3 airborne divisions British 1st US 101st and 82nd and presents new insights into the operation called Market Garden. It also follows the 2nd Army in their drive up a single narrow road to relieve the beleaguered British airborne forces in Arnhem. Arnhem expert Brigadier Frank Steer MBE provides a completely new and unique tour of the battlefield and the drama that unfolded in the epic days of the battle.

Memorial Day Weekend 2013
What a difference a year makes... last year we were waiting on a possible hurricane! Here's last year's post. Not this year, Thank God! Although it is 80 degrees right now, it's cloudy and a breeze from the north, so I have the windows open. I love days when I can open the windows.
It's also a time that I will remember my Great Uncle Joe who died by a sniper after getting his men safely across the river. A book and movie were made about the battle: A Bridge Too Far. I have a great respect for those who serve our country and their families. I remember my mother saying repeatedly, a soldiers family is never the same after losing them in the war.

Killed in Action Oct.3, 1944
26 years old
My weekend will be quiet... still have work to do around here. I'll look to see if I can watch the movie on my laptop and keep checking PBS for The Ghost Army. My Nephew (in-law's) Grandfather was a part of this and I keep missing the rebroadcast.
Remember what this holiday is truly about as you barbq, party, do what ever you do, by raising the flag, saying a silent prayer for all our troops past and present and that God will Bless them all and their families.

Looking back.... outside.
Sometimes I have to and sometimes it's good, to look back at where I started and where I've gotten to so far. Then I can see I have accomplished something and encouraged to keep on plugging away.
You can read about it here: My Beach Front. More changes have been made.
There was basically nothing growing but weeds and they grew very well! The hitch that should have come off within 5 days of sitting it there, was such an eye sore...rusted and peeling. Anything I did try to plant there either didn't grow or the man from the park that mowed, mowed or weed whacked the flowers down.
Finally the front turned into this:

WOW! It's been awhile!!
WOW!
I just saw how much of a while it has been... and I have been busy and doing one thing after the other and allot is still not done. Some things are done for now and I hope you follow along on Facebook to keep up with the zigs and zags.
Sometimes one thing leads to another, sometimes money gets in the way, sometimes my physical limitations get in the way or slow me down but there is always and still plenty to do....
I have taken on projects that I NEVER dreamed I would! Living on my own and a limited income is not a dream when hiring someone to do the work...even when they say they will...so what's a woman to do? DO IT YOURSELF!!! And I have been. I decided to write specific posts on the things I've done and completed, with the good, bad and the ugly. I live in a mobile home, and let me tell you: I love it BUT it is nothing like a house! Wait till you see and I explain as I go along... I figure that I will win the lottery AFTER I finish everything!
OK so here is what's been going on is:
These things are coming up next:

OK so here is what's been going on is:
- Replaced the hot water heater element after waiting about 6 months for a man to do it! Every time I asked, he said he forgot...even in Florida, cool showers get boring! IT WAS EASY!!
- Replaced the hall floor with my own Boardwalk!
- Took down the inside wall in a room and took a wall down completely.
- Rewire (?) a hall light and move wiring.
- Lay down a plywood floor and stained; painting an area rug on top.
- Stained walls to match floor, hung a cabinet above the washer and dryer, painting mural on the hall wall(s).
These things are coming up next:
- Taking out the electric heater and making a linen closet;
- Replacing a section of ceiling where I ripped it up looking for a leak!
- Taking down the 2 cabinets above the bar between the living room and kitchen.
- Hanging a bamboo ceiling in the living room.
- Lay a new floor in the kitchen.
- Enclose the patio with lattice.
- Never ending landscaping!
- Paint outside.
- Finish painting my shed.
